Shel Banks is an IBCLC and NHS infant feeding specialist based in Lancashire. She is vice-chair of the UK Association for Milk Banking, a charity which supports milk banks in the provision of donor human milk, and chair of LIFIB, which has been providing evidence-based information about formula and bottle-feeding to health professionals since 2008.
She is committed to evidence-based practice and the fully informed choice of expectant and new parents, and has contributed to three NICE Guidelines (Donor Milk Banking, Postnatal Care and Faltering Growth) and co-authored three Cochrane Systematic Reviews on various aspects of infantile colic.
Shel has a small private practice specialising in unsettled babies, disturbed sleep, formula feeding and faltering growth, and as a tutor for health and social care professionals in the UK and across the world.
Alongside teaching and coaching families and health professionals, Shel has also made a number of TV and radio appearances, including BBC Breakfast and the Channel 4 Dispatches documentary The Great Infant Formula Feeding Scandal.
